tl;dr for October 23rd

  • Merlin's Beard! Tickets for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" - the new play by author J.K. Rowling that picks up where her last Harry Potter book ended - sold all tickets for the first nine months of its Broadway run in a matter of hours last Wednesday.  The much-anticipated British import, which arrives at the Lyric Theatre in March, used the same Ticketmaster Verified process pioneered by Bruce Springsteen's one man show.  If only getting tickets were as simple as "Accio!"  Unfortunately, muggles will just have to wait until the next block goes on sale.
  • A trio of divas have new bio-musicals hitting the stage this season.  As previously announced, Cher has "The Cher Show" (making its Broadway bow at the Neil Simon Theatre next fall following a summer run in Chicago) and the late-Donna Summer has "Summer" (starting a pre-Broadway engagement at La Jolla Playhouse in November).  Now Tina Turner has "Tina: The Musical", premiering at London's Aldwych Theatre in March. Last week it was announced Adrienne Warren will step into the shoes of the Queen of Rock and Roll. Looks like 2018-2019 might be the season of the battle of the divas!
  • Lee Pace has joined the cast of the forthcoming National Theatre production of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America" starring Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield.  Pace will play the role of Joe Pitt previously played by Russell Tovey in the sold-out London run.  Performances of the limited run begin on Broadway in February. Audience Rewards pre-sale is now - general public tickets go on sale October 30th.
  • Acclaimed playwright Sam Shepard's final work - a novel whose story parallels his own struggle with ALS - will be published in December following his death earlier this year.
